Goals

Core Areas

The issues of the elaboration of future internet are not only one of the capital technical challenges in the area of IT security. They also lead to an urgent need of research and development because of the associated changes in media technologies (graphic data processing) and in the IT infrastructure and IT networking. Beyond that, the solutions that are worked out in this area also have a striking influence on future economic and social developments of the evolving information society.

Initial situation

We estimate that the initial situation of the TU Darmstadt has high potential for making valuable contributions in this research cluster and for being scientifically successful. This fact is also proved by a variety of high-quality joint research projects, cooperation with industries, graduate schools and junior scientific groups within the relevant fields. With the latest achievements – the software cluster in the course of the cutting-edge cluster competition, the “EIT ICT Labs” on European level and the DFG priority program “Reliably Secure Software Systems – RS3” – the TU Darmstadt is already in charge of key topics of “Future Internet” and completes thus the successful work of the department.

Goals

The participating specialties are already showing a high coherency of their research areas within the scope of “Future Internet”. Possible facets of the future development of internet technologies and its applications reveal security, graphic intersections and applications as well as media and communication networks as central thematic topics. In this sense it is that the represented department heads see the research cluster as an opportunity to sharpen the profile of the TU Darmstadt, to make synergies possible and to take a top position under the title “Future Internet”.
